Sustainable Hockerton has now raised all the capital required to fund the turbine so no new investments are currently being accepted. Over time there is also a possibility that investors might need to sell their shares. To cater for this we have created a "waiting list" of investors who may wish to buy shares from other investors as and when the opportunity arises. I you wish to be added to the list please  e mail enquiries@sustainablehockerton.org

Please note that the shares are now transferable shares.

The following text is a historical record of the investment process up to the end of 2009.

We have been delighted at the number of people wishing to support the project and have recently reached our target. This target is our best estimate of the total cost of the project to date. There is a chance that the costs might change over the next few months (October and November 2009) as we install the turbine and the actual costs materialise.  However the directors will be assessing the final investment necessary to make the project a success in mid November and will be informing potential investors of their decision at this point.

Over time there is also a possibility that other investors might need to sell their shares back to SHL. To cater for this we have created a waiting list of investors who may wish to buy shares from SHL as and when the opportunity arises. I you wish to be added to the list please e mail enquiries@sustainablehockerton.org

Simon Tilley has been leading the development of Sustainable Hockerton which has taken sustainability to the wider community of Hockerton.

Planning permission to erect a community owned wind turbine was gained on 26th June 2008 with the support of the village. There is currently a rare opportunity to buy a 2nd Hand Vesta V29 wind turbine as specified by the planning permission to make this scheme a reality.

To help achieve this, the group has registered an Industrial Provident Society called Sustainable Hockerton Limited (Register Number 30660 R) and they are now looking for investors. So far they have raised £86,250 locally, enough to by the turbine, but need to raise more to install and commission it. If you are interested, please e mail enquiries@sustainablehockerton.org  and ask for an invitation to invest.

By investing as little as £250 or up to £20, 000, individuals, organisations and businesses can support the project and therefore the move to a lower carbon energy supply.

How will it work?

  • The 225 kWh wind turbine is expected to generate enough electricity for more than 50 homes, saving 160 to 200 of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year,

  •   Electricity is fed into the national grid, with resulting revenue covering costs, providing a return for investors (The aim is to pay from 5% to 8%), and income to support additional environmental projects in the area,

  • The  society used is run by its members on a one member, one vote basis,

  •   If, as expected, there are a significant number of investors in the Hockerton area, the local economy will benefit,

  • 2000 people visit Hockerton Housing Project each year to learn about sustainable living, this turbine will add to their experience and potentially inspire further community projects,

  • After 15 to 20 years, the turbine may be decommissioned and it is envisaged that all remaining investments may be repaid in full.

The project may have the option of taking up the Government’s "Feed in Tariffs" which are intended to provide a guaranteed price per unit of electricity sold to the national grid from April 2010.

This move to a larger scale community energy generation is a natural and necessary next step to give more people the opportunity to take control of their future, and I hope you will take this opportunity to be part of this journey.
